Matt Young

Matt Young is the Chairman of Velvet Hammer Capital, a private investment firm specializing in the skilled trades and home services sector. He brings over two decades of experience in healthcare staffing, with a particular focus on physician and locum tenens services.

Throughout his career, Matt has been part of building and scaling exceptional organizations. He helped guide two locum tenens firms from startup through high-growth phases, most notably co-founding All Star Healthcare Solutions. Alongside his partners and executive team, Matt helped shape All Star into one of the top 5 locum tenens firms in the country, recognized for its industry-leading culture and execution. A recent transaction and partnership with Knox Lane marked a major milestone in the firm’s continued growth trajectory.

Matt’s professional journey has spanned nearly every facet of sales and operations, but his greatest fulfillment comes from mentoring others as they grow into leadership roles that strengthen the organization while advancing their own careers. His leadership philosophy is best reflected in Lao Tzu’s wisdom: “A leader is best when people barely know he exists; when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves.”

Beyond his operating achievements, Matt has contributed significantly to the broader industry. He served as President of the National Association of Locum Tenens Organizations (NALTO), in addition to holding board and committee roles focused on legislative advocacy, membership, and ethics. He is also active in YPO Palm Beach and advises multiple start-ups across technology, hospitality, real estate, and construction—helping early-stage ventures navigate growth and scale.

Through his roles as investor, operator, and board member, Matt brings a blend of entrepreneurial grit, people-first leadership, and proven growth execution to VHC as it seeks to back and build the next generation of market-leading businesses.
