James Paul Luthardt is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Kirtland Hills Capital, where he advises prominent family offices, entrepreneurs, and professional athletes on investment strategy, wealth governance, and long-term capital preservation. He has earned recognition as an innovator in the investment management space through his integration of big data and advanced quantitative tools in service of some of the nation’s most affluent families.
James began his career within an $80 billion Wall Street Private Client Group, where he served as a buy-side analyst and portfolio manager. He later led portfolio management research for a boutique investment firm whose GIPS-verified strategy ranked in the top percentile of its peer group for over a decade prior to its strategic sale in 2019. He also served as Director of Research for a historic family office with origins dating back to the mid-19th century.
In 2016, James was selected as one of only 15 Direct Commission Officers nationwide under a specialized Department of Defense program and was commissioned by President Barack Obama. He currently holds the rank of Lieutenant in the United States Navy Reserve, serving as a Special Projects Officer. His military service includes executing high-impact, Pentagon-level, and classified initiatives across the Department of Defense, including work supporting the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) and Naval Special Warfare Group 11 (SEAL Teams 17 & 18). James has also deployed to the Middle East with Joint Amphibious Naval Forces and has been awarded both the Joint Service Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal by the Secretary of Defense.
